Description: 

Orthopedics is a surgical specialty that deals with bone & joints trauma, bone and joint diseases.  Here in this department we are dealing 500 out patients and 120 causalities daily.  About 20 surgical procedures and 100 causalities are done in causalities and elective operation theatres.
Department started in 1956.  Till then from 1954 it was part of Department of Surgery.  Dr. K. I George was the First professor & HOD in this department.

24 Hours Services Of 2 Medical Officers, 8 Residents And House Officers
On Call Plastic Surgery And Vascular Surgery Services

Out Patient Services:
Works As OR1, OR2, OR3 and OR4 Units.
OPD Is Conducted On All Days Except Sundays Between 8.00 AM to 1.00 PM

Arthroplasty Service:
All Units Perform Primary and Joint Revision Surgeries on their Elective Days

Spine Service:
On Monday, Tuesday and Fridays: In charge Dr. Shiju Majeed A. and Dr. Ashok Ramakrishnan
All Forms Of Trauma, Degenerative, Neoplastic Conditions Affecting The Vertebra
Scoliosis Surgeries

Pediatric Orthopedics:
OPD on Monday 12 Noon.
Treats Problems like CTEV, CDH, Pseudarthrosis, Genu Varum/Valgum, Cerebral Palsy etc…

Arthroscopy Service:
In charge Dr. V.K Pramod and Dr. E.K Shanavas
Club foot Clinic:
Mon-Thursday

Academic:
Undergraduate And Postgraduate Lecture Classes

Achievements: 

All major trauma cases joint replacement (total hip, total knee) Elbow replacement, Arthroscopy & Arthroscopic surgeries. Spinal trauma & Spinal deformation, Pediatric orthopedic.  Every year 14 post graduates are admitted.  Thesis work @ of 6 per year is brought out.  Medical Boards to issue disability certificates twice weekly.   
Research: Bone substitute with Sree Chithira Thirunal Hospital. About  10 papers were published in the Kerala orthopedic association from this department every year.
