Priyadarshni Institute of Paramedical Sciences(PIPMS)

Description: 

This institute was started by the Government of Kerala in order to provide special training and education in paramedical courses to the students of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. The institute was inaugurated by Sri. K.Karunakaran, the former Chief Minister of Kerala, on 21/01/1985. Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm), Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology(DMLT), Diploma in Radiological Technology(DRT), Dental Mechanic certificate Course(DMC), Diploma in Ophthalmic Assistance(DOA) and General Nursing and Midwifery(GNM) are the various courses offered by the institute. Dr. Beena Paul is current director of the institute.

About the D.Pharm course

Diploma in Pharmacy or D.Pharm is a two year course with main objective is to educate and train the students for practicing pharmacy. A pass in D.Pharm course is minimum qualification to become registered pharmacist in India. Total intake for D.Pharm course in our institute is 40 and the admissions are made by Directorate of Medical education (DME). Minimum qualification for admission to the course is a pass in 10+2examination (academic stream) in science (physics ,chemistry and biology/mathematics or equivalent described in Education regulations 1991(Pharmacy act1948) approved by Pharmacy council of India(PCI). Duration of the course shall be two academic years ( Part-I and Part-II )with each academic year spread over a period of not less than one hundred and eighty working days in addition to 500 hours practical training spread over a period of not less than 3months. There shall be examination for Diploma in Pharmacy (part-I) to examine the students of the first year course and examination for the Diploma in Pharmacy (Part-II) to examine the students of the second year course. Examination is conducted by Board of D.Pharm examinations, Directorate of Medical Education (DME) Government of Kerala. Minimum 75% attendance in theory and practical separately is essential for appearing examination. Failure of more than two subjects in D.Pharm Part-I examinations debar him/her from promotion to the Diploma in Pharmacy Part-II Class. The institute is approved by Pharmacy council of India (PCI) for conduction of D.Pharm course under subsection-(1)of section the Pharmacy12 of the Pharmacy act 1948
