Urology
Urology (from Greek οὖρον ouron "urine" and -λογία -logia "study of"), also known as genitourinary surgery, is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary tract system and the male reproductive organs.

Department of Genito urinary surgery and andrology in Trivandrum medical college offers a wide range of services in the realm of urology.We are equipped with state of the art facilities to undertake virtually every complex urologic procedures performed across the globe.Services offered include
Endo urology - for management of stones as well as prostatic and urethral diseases including BPH, urethral stricture etc. The procedures routinely done includes TURP, URS, RIRS and many more
Percutaneous surgeries to the kidney, like PCNL
ESWL- extra corporeal shockwave lithotripsy for kidney and ureteric stones
Various open surgeries for stone disease, tumors of genito-urinary tract , congenital anomalies
Minimally invasive Major surgical procedures - Laparoscopic and retroperitoneoscopic surgeries for various urologic conditions
Reconstructive urologic procedures for uro-genital abnormalities
Renal transplantation- both live and deceased donors. This is one of the largest transplant centers in Kerala, pioneered in deceased donor transplantation in Government sector, done the maximum number of transplants so far. Donor nephrectomies are routinely done through laparoscopic route,thereby minimising the donor morbidity.
We provide Out patient services 6 days a week. There are three Units, each having two OP days and two operation theatre a week. The OPD services include office cystoscopy, Ultrasonography, Urodynamic studies, various daycare procedures etc.
ICU - well equipped Intensive care unit with trained staff for managing post-operative and critically ill patients
Academic activities:
The department provides training for postgraduates with annual intake of 6 students. This is one of the much sought after institution in India for postgraduate training in genitourinary surgery and renal transplantation. The students are provided with excellent facilities for clinical, academic and research activities at par with the international standards. Many of our alumni are practicing as eminent teachers and surgeons in India and abroad.
General Surgery residents(post graduate students) are given training for a month in various aspects of urological surgery. 24 residents from the General surgery department can avail this facility each year.
Nursing students are given training in patient care in ward and ICU. They are also given opportunity to assist surgical procedures
Department provides training for endoscopic technicians as well.
