SAT hospital is a tertiary care institute, the maternal and child health wing of Government Medical College ,Thiruvananthapuram. Located in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram, it forms the key testing referral centre for the whole of South Kerala and Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu .Housing Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics departments, the hospital has grown over years to the present status, with bed strength of 1025.

We have seven functioning units with total staff strength of 35.The annual outpatient turn is 75000 with 28000 admissions, 10,000 deliveries, 3,000 caesarians, 2,000 major Gynecological surgeries.
We have a specialised Obstetric intensive care unit called MITU with ventilator fecility and a full-fledgedstate of the art IVF centre attached to our hospital. We are on the path of expansion with better facilitiesfor OPD, Casualty and Labour Rooms as the new maternity wing of SATH, which got inaugurated in 2016, starts functioning. We have a PPT centre (Prevention of parent to child transmission of HIV/AIDS) attached to our antenatal clinic.

We are considered to be one of the premier teaching institute with an annual undergraduatestudent strength of 200 and post graduate's strength of 47 with an excellent track record of success. This is an approved examination centre for Diplomate of National Board. Our hospital is also a training centre
for RCH training and also other training sponsored by Health and Family welfare Department for MTP,Minilap, IUCD insertion, NSV training. We conduct monthly accademic programmes in co-ordination with FOGSI for the O&G practitoners. We conduct seminars annually for medical officers in the Govt.
Sector on family welfare programmes and newer contraceptive techniques.

Other Activities:

Our hospital is also training centre for course in Global Health in Kerala, for the Swedishundergraduate and nursing students under the global exchange programme of Karolinska institute ,Stockholm, Sweden.  Also centre for clinical practice of Medicine in India for specialisation in Pediatrics
and Gynecology under CeFAM Huddinge Stockholm Country Council Sweden.Apart from clinical and accademic activities, Institute has a good track record of research activities. We carry out WHO , ICMR and other centre research activities. Ongoing research in ourdepartment include London School of Public Health Trial on Tranexamic acid on postpartum hemorrhage– global study. ICMR study on IMPLANON (progesterone implant) and PVR (progesterone vaginalring), RCT of low dose magnesium sulphate in ecclampsia and determinants of infertility. New protocolwhich are in pipeline include the study on Gynecological morbidity in women in the community,community introduction of medical abortion through District hospitals (ICMR study).

ACHIEVEMENTS:

  • Fertility clinic started functioning from 2012. The batch of IVF babies in Government sector was born on November 22nd, 2013.

  • A new maternity block has been constructed with the help of NHM funds.
