Thiruvananthapuram: On Monday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will dedicate 15 significant projects aimed at enhancing the excellence of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The inauguration will include a new MLT (Medical Laboratory Technology) block, various treatment devices, and the foundation stone laying for a new operation theatre complex.
The projects to be inaugurated are:

MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and DR machines in the radiology department

128-slice CT unit
Expanded Paediatric Neuro and Nephro wards
Paediatric Nephro Dialysis unit
Paediatric Gastro Endoscopy
Mother-Newborn unit
Urodynamic Study Center
Breast Milk Bank
Skin Bank
Upgraded Web Set
The new MLT block, constructed at a cost of ₹21.35 crore, is designed to improve learning facilities for MLT students. The Breast Milk Bank, which stores milk collected from mothers of other babies for premature and critically ill infants whose own mothers cannot provide it, is part of these projects. The total value of these major initiatives, set to become a reality on September 1st, is approximately ₹180 crore.
A new operation theatre complex, which is part of the master plan, will also have its foundation stone laid. This project is being constructed through KIIFB (Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board) at a cost of ₹81.50 crore. The Cath Lab, CT unit, and Urodynamic Study Center, which are also part of the projects, were established by KHRWES (Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society). The Urodynamic Study Center, which diagnoses symptoms of urinary diseases and evaluates the function of the bladder and urethra, is the first of its kind in the government sector and is rarely available in leading private hospitals.
The event will take place on Monday at 4 PM on the Medical College campus. Health Minister Veena George will preside over the function.
