Ophthalmic hospital started in 1905 and it became the department of ophthalmology and later in 1995 the hospital was upgraded to the Regional institute of ophthalmology having Postgraduate courses in ophthalmology and a bachelor's-degree course in optometry. It has 250 bedded hospital with specialized services for retina, paediatric ophthalmology, low vision, cornea and glaucoma clinics, an eye bank, tele-ophthalmology, a uvea clinic, a dispensing lab and contact-lens and cataract clinics
